Nine cities hosted the across-the-nation World Of Dance competition, an event that is intended to “celebrate urban dance.” When a video of very young girls dancing to a Beyonce made it to the internet, though, some started to wonder if World of Dance competition had gone too far. The dance troupe doesn’t seem to have won the cash now loans prize of $500, although the crowd went wild. Why is this particular dance such a large issue?
The Competition behind the World of Dance
Entry to the World of Dance competition is relatively open, with different divisions. In age-separated divisions, groups and individuals of all types compete. The competition is intended to be a lot more entertaining than ballroom or traditional dance, embracing “street dance”. The World of Dance Tour has a number of corporate sponsors, and has a festival atmosphere. Fashion designers, hair stylists and a lot more display their products at the World of Dance Tour, hoping to non-traditionally market to the billion-dollar youth and teen market.
The World of Dance controversy
Numerous individuals had never heard of the World of Dance before this video hit YouTube. A video of five girls dancing to Beyonce’s “Put a Ring On It” has catapulted the competition to just about every news station. Using dance moves generally attributed to older women and wearing very skimpy outfits, these girls have become unintentional stars. The girl’s parents and event promoters point out the dance moves came not even from Beyonce’s video, but instead from Alvin and also the Chipmunks Squeakquel that was recently released.
How World of Dance has reacted
The parents, coach, and World of Dance representatives have all gone on-the-record about the “Single Ladies girls”. World Of Dance spokespeople says that the girls “did nothing provocative.” Among other things, parents point out the performance was well-received at the competition and was never intended for a wider audience. What do you think of this whole thing. Did this young girl’s dance troupe step over the line? Or are they just incredible performers who have been taken out of context?
